French Onion Soup

Classic French Onion Soup recipe. The secret is the port!

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp Butter

  • 1 Tbsp Olive Oil

  • 6 Lg Onion, thinly sliced (Something sweet, like Vidalia)

  • 6 cups beef broth

  • Salt & Pepper

  • 1/3 cup port

  • Swiss & Parmesan Cheese (for top)

  • French Bread

Directions

  • Melt butter and oil over medium heat. Add onions and cook until well caramelized.

  • Add stock and bring to boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

  • Stir in Port, salt, and pepper to taste

  • Place bread over bowl of soup. Sprinkle with Swiss and Parmesan cheese. Broil until cheese is melted.
