Chocolate Pie
This is Mom’s Chocolate “Cream” Pie…although it’s so dense and yummy, it really shouldn’t be called a cream pie
Ingredients
3 squares unsweetened chocolate
2 1⁄2 cups milk
1 cup sugar
1⁄2 cup flour
1⁄2 tsp salt
2 eggs, well beaten
1 tsp vanilla
1 pie crust
Directions
Cut chocolate into pieces to facilitate melting. Add to 2 cups milk in top of double boiler and stir over hot water until chocolate is melted. Once melted, beat with mixer until smooth.
In another bowl, add remaining 1⁄2 cup milk, sugar, flour, and salt and mix to a smooth paste. Slowly mix paste into chocolate mixture and blend well. Heat this mixture for a couple minutes then stir a little of the hot chocolate mixture into eggs. Blend egg mixture well and then stir into the hot mixture. Cook chocolate mixture for an additional 2 minutes until thick. Cool slightly and then add vanilla.
Pour chocolate mixture into pre-baked pie crust. Chill pie in refrigerator. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
