Chocolate Pie

This is Mom’s Chocolate “Cream” Pie…although it’s so dense and yummy, it really shouldn’t be called a cream pie

Ingredients

  • 3 squares unsweetened chocolate

  • 2 1⁄2 cups milk

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1⁄2 cup flour

  • 1⁄2 tsp salt

  • 2 eggs, well beaten

  • 1 tsp vanilla

  • 1 pie crust

Directions

  • Cut chocolate into pieces to facilitate melting. Add to 2 cups milk in top of double boiler and stir over hot water until chocolate is melted. Once melted, beat with mixer until smooth.

  • In another bowl, add remaining 1⁄2 cup milk, sugar, flour, and salt and mix to a smooth paste. Slowly mix paste into chocolate mixture and blend well. Heat this mixture for a couple minutes then stir a little of the hot chocolate mixture into eggs. Blend egg mixture well and then stir into the hot mixture. Cook chocolate mixture for an additional 2 minutes until thick. Cool slightly and then add vanilla.

  • Pour chocolate mixture into pre-baked pie crust. Chill pie in refrigerator. Serve with whipped cream if desired.
